Independence Day in Summerville is all about the Fireworks and Freedom Festival. It is an annual 4th of July celebration held at Gahagan Park. The event has something to offer people of all ages and can make for the perfect summer evening.
The Fireworks and Freedom Festival starts at 5:30 pm and runs until 9:30 pm on July 4th. The event is free to enter, and while you do not need money to attend, food, beverage, and entertainment options may require cash.
The event offers a fun and pleasant evening out in the park. Attendees can enjoy the free live music and time out with friends and family. The kid’s zone is great for entertaining children. Kids can have fun with all sorts of activities. Kids can get unlimited access to games and other activities with a few dollars for a wristband.
Beyond the live music, good food, cold drinks, and kids’ activities, the evening ends with the fireworks show. The earlier festivities usually run until about 9:00 pm, and then the fireworks show goes for the last half hour.
There is limited onsite parking at the field behind Gahagan Park. With that said, it fills up quickly. However, a free shuttle runs on a loop from Summerville Town Hall to the park. That means you can park anywhere in downtown Summerville and catch the shuttle to the event.
Organizers encourage attendees to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and plenty of water. While the event does not allow large coolers, you can bring small coolers for personal use.
