300 State Park Rd, Summerville – (843) 873-1740
With Colonial Dorchester State Historic Park, you have the preserved remnants of the Dorchester settlement. The town was abandoned after the Revolutionary War, but visitors can still see some of the remaining buildings and artifacts from the town. The ruins of St. Georges Anglican Church and cemetery are popular among visitors. The remains of old Fort Dorchester also make for a fascinating tour if you happen to be at the park. Visitors can also enjoy the acres of land for hiking and exploring.
326 Hundred Oaks Pkwy, Summerville
The Schultz-Lotz Farmhouse is a restored farmhouse from the Ponds Plantation. The plantation can be traced back to as early as the late 17th Century. However, the plantation land is now a residential community. The developers restored the old farmhouse, which currently serves as a community center for the surrounding homes. It offers a nice touch of history and a place for gatherings.
The Old White Meeting House is another historic location in South Carolina. Like Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site, it is on the National Register of Historic Places. The old meetinghouse dates from 1700. It was then burned during the Revolutionary War and rebuilt in 1794. The Charleston Earthquake of 1886 then reduced the structure to ruins. Today, visitors can still see the outline of the structure with the corners still standing. Beyond that, you have the adjoining cemetery with headstones.
